The house is now fully insulated. We didn’t get a chance to take pictures of the new wall insulation, but today the blow fill has been installed in the attic space. You can see it through the plastic vapor barrier we put in the entryway ceiling where there is no drywall because we are going to be putting tongue and groove lap board up there instead.

One down, one to go…
Now that the drywall is up, we’ve turned our attention to finishing the walls around the tub surrounds with cement board. We also installed the wall niches that when the tile is up will give us some storage in the shower surround without having those soap dish things protrude into the shower area. We put up a vapor barrier behind the cement board to provide some additional protection and have completed the tub surround in the master bathroom. Tomorrow we’ll tackle the 2nd bathroom and then get the floor hardi backer board down so we can start tiling once drywall sanding is complete and the hardwoods are installed.
They blew their horns, and the walls…er, went up?
WHOO HOO!!! Drywall is in. We never thought we’d see this day come! After a month in suspended animation where we thought we’d be living in a house that had a VERY open floor plan we finally have the drywall up and the first round of mud and tape has been applied. We had a few areas to fix after the drywall went up, but we are good to go. There are a few walls where there is no drywall - which was intentional. We have a number of built-ins and some architectural wood details planned for the fit and finish phase that will hopefully set our house apart.
Return of the Big Update
This blog, as with all things construction, is a hurry up then slow down mentality. Between inspection delays, minor repairs to trade work, a week off to finally go on our honeymoon and more inspection delays we finally have things to update on. First and foremost we are done with all of our inspections - electrical, plumbing, mechanical, framing and insulation – and we have been able to put the walls back in the house. Now that we are in the midst of mudding and taping, I’ve been able to start working on things like the cement board backers for the tubs and preparing to lay the new hardwood floors. So, without further adieu, the inspections:
Plumbing – One trip, one score (this would be the only time that happened):
